Advisory Committees

The URC has a set of advisory committees to provide faculty and staff with the opportunity to provide input to and participate in the development of new facilities and services.

URC Steering Committee – This committee includes representatives from every college and major research center, and will provide input on strategic planning and major policies. (This committee was active during the initial development of the HPC environment (ChargerNet), but has been on hiatus awaiting the the next major initiative).

URC Advisory Groups – Each major facility developed by the URC will have an independent advisory group with representatives from its major user communities. These groups will be responsible for issues like acceptible use policies, allocation of time on facilities, scheduling maintenance outages, or prioritization of upgrades.

Communities of Interest – The URC will also try to promote user oriented groups of individuals with common interests that can independently work toward shared solutions in areas that are not yet supported within the URC.  For example, the High Performance Computing Club has been meeting off and on since early 2005.

About Us

University Research Computing (URC) is one of several support groups within Information & Technology Services (ITS). Our mission is to support the unique computing needs of UNC Charlotte's diverse community of research faculty by developing shared computing facilities and offering specialized services that would be difficult for individual research groups or departments to provide internally.
